Family Fun with Food and Fitness

GOSHEN, Ind. - With computers, gaming systems and text messaging, today's youth have tons of entertainment options that keep them planted on the couch over playing in the yard. Top that with an unhealthy diet made up of sugary snacks and fast food, and it's easy to see why children and parents are worrying about health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a growing incidence of type 2 diabetes at an early age.

Join Goshen Health System's Norma Monik, RN, fitness and nutrition coordinator for a fun discussion on ways in which parents and children can get active as a family this summer. Monik will address steps families can take together to improve the health of the entire household.

Teaching healthy habits to children at an early age, said Monik, is easier than trying to unlearn bad ones. Monik will discuss "Family Fun with Food and Fitness" at 6:30 p.m. on June 25 at Martin's Super Market on U.S. 33 in Goshen. Part of Goshen Health System's community educational series, this event is held in the upstairs section of Martin's Side Door Deli.

In addition, two lucky participants will have a chance to win one of two Goshen Health System fitness passes being raffled that evening. This is a free event presented by Goshen Health System and Martin's Super Markets.
