
Childbirth Classes at Goshen General Hospital
Traditional Childbirth Education Series
A four class series that discusses the third trimester of pregnancy, the labor
and birth process, medical interventions, cesarean birth, postpartum, baby care
basics and safety, breastfeeding, tour of the OB unit, and labor rehearsal. Classes
meet 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. once a week. |
Breastfeeding/Tour Class
A discussion of breastfeeding basics. Topics include anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding,
getting started, positioning, pumping and storage, and what to expect in the hospital.
This class is for the expectant parent that is a first-time breastfeeding mother
or any mother who needs a refresher on breastfeeding how-to. Class includes a tour
of the OB unit. Class time is 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. |
Sibling Class
This class is for ages 2-10 years old. There is a discussion on what to expect with
a new sibling at home as well as a “practice session” on diapering and
holding a newborn. Children should bring a doll or stuffed animal to class. A tour
of the OB unit is included. Class time is 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. |
Weekend Express
A one day class that is a fast-paced version of the Traditional Series. Topics include
the labor and birth process, medical interventions, cesarean birth, postpartum,
baby care basics, labor rehearsal, and tour of OB unit. This class is a great option
for the busy expectant parents. Class time is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
Refresher Class and Labor Rehearsal
Topics include comfort measures and positions for labor, relaxation and breathing
techniques, and many other coping strategies for labor. |
Childbirth Education “To-Go” DVD Class
A DVD rental class. This is for the busy expectant parents that cannot attend traditional
on-site classes. Topics include understanding labor and delivery, warning signs,
stages of labor, medical interventions, cesarean birth, and comfort measures for
labor. A birth on video is available to watch at a labor rehearsal class (included
in fee). |
